WHAT IS THE ACTIVE RECOVERY LAB?

Active recovery isn't just a normal rest day where you skip your workout routine or training day. It is the time to accelerate muscle healing with soft tissue mobilization, proper stretching and calculated use of ice and heat to increase circulation and improve your body's ability to recover. All these techniques assist the body with muscle healing while maintaining joint mobility and flexibility to quickly return to training.

The Active Recovery Lab is a cash pay, mobile workshop to address the need for regular active recovery, injury prevention, and if needed, provide physical therapy evaluations and treatments to improve physical well-being.

Utilizing proven rehab and fitness techniques, the ARL will decrease recovery time between intense workouts, increase muscle flexibility to reduce joint wear and tear and improve performance.

At ARL we also address acute and chronic injuries to help each person return to a regular, independent workout and prevent future injuries.

MARY CHU, PT DPT

Founder and Wellness Expert

The Active Recovery Lab is the brainchild of Mary Chu. Since graduating with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California in 2011, Mary has worked as a sports and orthopedic physical therapist throughout California. It became apparent to her that the public lacks an understanding about simple techniques to prevent injuries during regular exercise or when training and playing sports.

Additionally, there is a gap in understanding how to help a woman heal after labor so that she can feel confident in her body and regain control of her body in the early stages of motherhood. Mary created the ARL to give proper rehabilitative and fitness advice and help women understand that they do not have to suffer the fear of pelvic pain and incontinence.

In her free time, Mary enjoys weightlifting, hiking Torrey Pines and spending time with friends and family at the beach or exploring new restaurants.
